Should I Take Fido Boating With Me?

By Judy Lash

Hey, are you thinking of taking your furry friend on a boat trip? That sounds like a lot of fun, but there are some things you should consider before you set sail. Here are some tips to make sure your dog has a safe and enjoyable boating experience.

– Check the weather forecast and avoid going out on a stormy or windy day. You don’t want your dog to get seasick or scared by the waves and noises.

– Make sure your dog has a life jacket that fits well and is comfortable. Even if your dog is a good swimmer, a life jacket can help them stay afloat in case of an emergency or fatigue.  I got

mine for our pug Jetta on Amazon and it was pretty reasonable.

– Bring plenty of water and snacks for your dog, and avoid feeding them right before or during the trip. You don’t want them to get dehydrated or nauseous from the motion of the boat.

– Keep your dog on a leash or in a crate when you’re not holding them. You don’t want them to jump overboard or get tangled in the ropes or wires.

– Be mindful of the sun and heat, and provide some shade and cooling for your dog. You don’t want them to get sunburned or overheated from the exposure.

– Have fun and enjoy the scenery with your dog, but don’t forget to pay attention to their body language and behavior. If they seem anxious, restless, or unhappy, it might be time to head back to shore.

I hope these tips help you and your dog have a great boating adventure. Remember to be safe and responsible, and have a blast!  Check out our pug Jetta boating with us recently.
